(January 20, 2005) -- On January 18 at roughly 7:30 p.m., a man stopped at a fast food restaurant in the 5400 block of Atlantic Ave. was carjacked at gunpoint, forced to drive to the 5400 block of Linden Ave. and robbed of his personal possessions. When the suspect got out of the vehicle to get additional items from the trunk, the victim managed to arm himself with his own handgun that he had in the vehicle and attempted to flee.
LBPD says in a written release that the suspect fired at the victim...and the victim returned fire. The suspect and the victim were both hit. The victim survived...and the suspect carjacker died.
The suspect has been identified as Maurice Adams, 36, of Long Beach. The victim was a 28 year old resident of Compton.
LBPD Homicide Detectives presented the case to the District Attorney's office and no charges will be filed against the victim.
