Sunday A.M. Crash, Studebaker @ Wardlow; One Driver Perishes, The Other Survives

(Jan. 2, 2005) -- A horrific Sunday morning crash at the corner of Studebaker Rd. at Wardlow Rd. has claimed the life of a Long Beach woman.

LBPD says that at approximately 6:38 a.m., a 1993 (red) Chrysler LeBaron (eastbound on Wardlow) and a 1995 (black) Toyota 4Runner (southbound on Studebaker) collided under circumstances being investigated as we post.

LBFD Public Information Officer Capt. Jim Arvizu says Engine 18, Rescue 19, Truck 17 and Battalion Commander 2 responded to an awful scene: the force of the collision had peeled away the driver's side door on the red Chrysler.

Its driver, a 50-year old woman who resided in LB (identity not released as we post) was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, a 59 year-old woman who also resides in LB, was transported to a hospital with what LBPD described as minor injuries.

LBPD says its investigation is continuing...and asks anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Accident Investigations Detective Brian Watt at (562) 570-7355.
