Los Angeles County Democratic Party Announces Endorsement of Bob Foster for Long Beach Mayor
Los Angeles -- The Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) today announced its endorsement of Bob Foster for mayor of the City of Long Beach. Foster received the unanimous vote of LACDP delegates at the January 17, 2006, meeting.
LACDP Chair Eric C. Bauman said, "Long Beach is critical to the economic success of L.A. County. Its port, attractions and businesses support thousands of jobs and generate billions of dollars of revenue. We believe that no one is more qualified to oversee the vital resources and needs of our second largest city than Bob Foster.
His experience as President of one of California’s largest corporations and his commitment to social progress will make Bob Foster a '21st Century mayor for a 21st Century city'. Long Beach faces many challenges in these turbulent times. Foster’s experience and hands-on approach is just what this city needs."
Bob Foster was President of Southern California Edison from 2002 to 2005. He is a member of the California State University Board of Trustees and a past Board Member of the Aquarium of the Pacific. Active in local causes and organizations, Bob is a board member of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Long Beach Library and the Advisory Board of Long Beach Memorial Miller Children’s Hospital.
Bob is committed to keeping manufacturing jobs in Long Beach, and will work tirelessly to keep Boeing here. One of Bob’s top priorities when he becomes mayor is to add 100 new police officers to the streets of Long Beach.
The LACDP is committed to mobilizing its professional resources and grassroots activists to help ensure Bob Foster’s election as mayor. With more than 100,000 Democrats in Long Beach, and two million throughout Los Angeles County, the Democratic Party endorsement is one of the most desirable endorsements in any election.
The Los Angeles County Democratic Party is the official governing body of the Democratic Party in Los Angeles, working in cooperation with the State and National Democratic Committees. LACDP conducts the Democratic Party campaign in Los Angeles and is responsible to build and maintain the Democratic Party at the local level. The essence of LACDP's mission is to encourage the fullest possible participation of Democratic voters and to widely disseminate the Democratic message, platform and philosophy to voters.
