News House Fire Near ELB LBCC
(January 25, 2006) -- A two-story house in the 4300 block of Sunfield Ave. (just north of the ELB LBCC campus) caught fire on Jan. 24, triggering a response from a citizen-passerby and two LBCC campus cops (LBPD officers) who rode over on bikes.
Details are a bit unclear but the net result is that a woman inside the house was brought outside to safety while smoke was coming from the structure, and shortly thereafter the blaze erupted with full fury.
Firefighters waged a major battle to quell the flames. LBFD Public Information Officer Paul Rodriguez says about 30 firefighters fought flames on the first and second floors simultaneously while also conducting extensive rooftop work.

Three public safety personnel were treated on scene for minor injuries. One of the first-responding LBCC/LBPD bike officers suffered minor smoke inhalation; an LBFD firefighter had minor smoke inhalation...and another LBFD firefighter suffered back strain.
