(Jan. 20, 2010) -- LBReport.com has learned that Jan. 19 flooding in the Wilson High area is attributable at least in part to a mattress that was found clogging an area storm drains.
City of LB Acting Stormwater Environmental Compliance Officer, Anthony Arevalo, says his office's contractor found that on Bennett Ave. near Wilson High School found a mattress in the storm drain...and this blockage likely caused the flood. He said the contractor also found a build-up of sediment in the drain, but the mattress in the storm drain was the main cause of the backup and resulting flooding.
He said that particular drain didn't have one of the city's filtering devices that keep items from going in.
He said that a week prior to the major storm, his crews went to areas of previous known flooding (including WLB/Arlington St.) and cleared the area.
And the flooding was not related to the Termino drain project or related construction, he said.
