UPDATE: Man Dies in NLB Drive-By Shooting, LB Blvd/68th St; Another Man Is Wounded

(Jan. 8, 2012, updated 4:20 p.m. from 5:00 a.m.) -- Long Beach had its second murder of 2012 last night (Saturday Jan. 7): a drive-by shooting in NLB.

Two people were shot -- one is dead, the other wounded -- in the NW corner of LB near the Compton Border (68th St./LB Blvd.) Details will follow in the coming hours from LBPD.

LBPD says in a release that at about 10:39 p.m., two men (adults) were standing on the sidewalk at the NE corner of LB Blvd/68th St. northeast corner of LBB and 68th Street. A gray sedan approached the intersection driving northbound on Long Beach Boulevard. The sedan stopped at the intersection of LBB and 68h Street. The male suspect(s) shot from the driver's side of the vehicle striking both victims in the upper torso area. The suspects' gray sedan fled the scene east bound on 68th Street. The abandoned suspects’ vehicle was located in the City of Long Beach shortly after the shooting.

The victims did not know each other and were apparently about to enter a business when they were shot. Both victims were transported to a local hospital. The 21-year-old male victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The 38-year-old male victim died as a result of his injuries. The victims are both residents of Los Angeles.

The NLB double-shooting came two days after Long Beach man was fatally shot (Jan. 5) in the noon-hour in the area of 21st St./Orange Ave. while walking with a male friend who was also targeted but wasn't hit.
