  • 8th dist. has three filed candidates
  • 4th dist. has two filed cndidates + incumbent O'Donnell says he'll use write-in procedure seeking third term

  • (Jan. 14, 2012, updated) -- As flashed on LBReport.com's front page last night, the following individuals filed paperwork by Friday's at 5 p.m. to qualify as ballot listed candidates for the April 2012 City Council elections:

2nd dist: Suja Lowenthal (incumbent) vs. Janet Ballantyne vs. Mike Kamer (latter requested paperwork Jan. 10, filed it Jan. 13, has told LBReport.com he doesn't plan to spend money in campaign) UPDATE: Announced candidate Stella Ursua didn't file sufficient valid signatures by Friday's deadline; she put the following dispatch on Facebook: "Friends/family, I made the biggest bonehead, rookie mistake of not checking whether those that signed my nomination papers had officially registered in the 2nd district...some signatures were not allowed and I did not meet the deadline for submission of papers. I apologize to all that had become involved and donated valuable time/effort to the campaign...kickin' myself in the rear all night that I will not be in this race! Taking a deep breath, and reorganizing."

4th dist.: Daryl Supernaw vs. John Watkins (vs. incumbent Patrick O'Donnell who's indicated he'll use write-in campaign procedure for a third term).

6th dist.: Dee Andrews (incumbent) has no filed opposition.

8th dist.: Lillian Kawasaki vs. Al Austin vs. Gustavo Rivera (latter requested paperwork Jan 12, filed it Jan. 13).

The candidate Jan. 13 filing deadline is extended to Jan. 18 in districts where the incumbent hasn't filed for reelection (4th and 8th districts) and the filing deadline for write-in candidates runs from Jan. 13 to Feb. 27.

LBReport.com was present at City Hall and has video as Facebook declared candidate (and "Tea Party" supporter) Robert Wideman -- whose campaign requested candidate paperwork on Friday (deadline) morning for a Friday 5 p.m. filing deadline -- was informed at the City Clerk's window that he'd failed to submit sufficient validated signatures of 2nd dist. registered voters to qualify as a ballot candidate.
