Jan. 21, 7:10 a.m.: Rain Cancellation / Rescheduling: Rain cancels today's(Jan. 13, 2012) -- Hundreds of people will converge on the El Dorado Park Athletic Fields on Saturday January 21 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the 3rd annual Chrissy Strong-Marshall Memorial Kickball Tournament, an event honoring the LB Parks, Rec & Marine Dept. Bureau Manager who strongly supported youth programs and safe and inclusive parks...and lost a courageous battle to cancer on March 20, 2009 at the age of forty. The event simultaneously raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals in the law enforcement community going through a cancer journey, as well as for the City of Hope. LECSF's President is LBPD Commander and cancer survivor Josef Levy, who says the tournament has grown to attract 16 teams and draws over 600 people from various LB City Departments. LECSF uses a network of mentors comprised of law enforcement cancer survivors who provide free emotional support, guidance and resources for those in the law enforcement community, their families, friends and loved ones, offering one-on-one cancer support in a non-judgmental, empathetic manner. Commander Levy invites corporate sponsor support at levels beginning at $500, entitling the company or individual to be listed on the tournament banner and t-shirts with special recognition at opening ceremonies...and individual and private donations are also welcome and can be made by clicking here. "All donations are tax deductible," Commander Levy says. Donations will enable LECSF to continue providing support to members of the law enforcement community facing a cancer experience.
