On 24 Hrs Notice, Mayor Foster Agendizes Meetings Tuesday Jan. 10 w/ Community Dev'ment Advisory Comm'n & LB Housing Development Co. (On Their Future Roles) & LB Redevelopment Agency (To Discuss Its Future Role & Responsibilities)...And Just Hours Later, Council Will Hold Previously Scheduled Closed Session Re Case In Which CA Supreme Court Ended Local Redevelopment

(Jan. 9, 2012) -- In a series of three meetings agendized on 24-hours notice (under a "Brown Act" procedure letting a city's Mayor agendize special meetings on such short notice), Mayor Bob Foster today (Jan. 9) agendized a Tuesday (Jan. 10) meeting at 10:30 a.m. with the Community Development Advisory Commission at 11:30 a.m. with the Long Beach Housing Development Co. to discuss their future roles and responsibilities...and at 12:30 p.m. with LB's Redevelopment Agency Board "to discuss future role and responsibilities of the Redevelopment Agency."

A few hours thereafter on the same day (Jan. 10) -- in an action agendized last week for "closed session" discussion at 4:00 p.m. -- an item is described as "regarding existing litigation, California Redevelopment Asssociation vs. Matosantos, the case on which the CA Supreme Court ruled Dec. 29. The CA Supreme Court ruling upheld (against a challenge by Redevelopment proponents, joined by the City of LB) the state legislature's ending of the former Redevelopment system (which Gov. Brown said would cost state taxpayers nearly $2 billion in FY12) and struck down the state legislature's "new" version of Redevelopment which required local RDA's to pay sums to Sacramento to fund education and other specific purposes.

In agendizing the Council item re Redevelopment as a "closed session" item, City Hall cited Gov't Code Section 54956.9(a).

In another item scheduled for 4 p.m. closed session discussion, the City Council will conduct a "Public Employee Evaluation: City Manager" (citing CA Gov't Code section 54957).
