Double Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Wounded in NLB: 6400 block Atlantic Ave.

Double-shooting occurs hours after a shooting area Atlantic/55th during MLK Parade

Both shootings occurred during "Peace Week" and on the same day as LB's MLK Parade (in Central LB) .

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt tells LBREPORT.com [caveat: preliminary information] that at approx. 4:30 p.m., LBPD responded to the 6400 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding a shooting. Officers found two men (adults) had been shot.

Both were transported to a hospital; one was later pronounced deceased.

Earlier this week (Jan. 16), LB had its first murder of 2013; it was at the western edge of the 4th Council district in the 1700 block of Cherry Ave.

The shooting earlier today (Jan. 19) at Atlantic/55th St. occurred while LB's 25th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. parade was taking place in Central LB.

The latest NLB shootings come two weeks after another 8th district shooting, this one in the 4900 block of Grisham Ave. (west of LB Blvd., north of the RR tracks, south of Del Amo Blvd.

A little less than a month earlier (Dec. 22), two people were shot -- and one of them died -- when gunfire broke out in the 200 block of E. Pleasant St., north of the RR tracks and south of Del Amo Blvd.

LBREPORT.com has also recently learned of two possible NLB shootings unmarked on our map: (1) an assault with a firearm (we presume a shooting, awaiting confirmation) on Jan. 5, 2013 in the 400 block of W. 57th St...about a block west of Atlantic and just south of South St; and (2) an assault with a firearm (we presume a shooting, awaiting confirmation) in the 5700 block of Orange Ave. on Jan. 7.
