(Jan. 21, 2014) -- Long Beach's first murder of 2014 was on Monday night on MLK Day, Jan. 20. A man was shot in the area MLK Ave/New York Street
2014 murders (red X's) Context: Murders (red Xs 2011-2013, brown 2010) and shootings (blue X's Aug. 2, 2011-Dec. 2013) On Monday (Jan. 20) at about 9:55 p.m., LBPD responded to the area of New York Street/MLK Ave. regarding shots fired...and found a man (adult) down on the street with a gunshot wound; he was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. The victim was Sambo Chhyoy, 33, of Long Beach. There's no suspect information for now; a motive for the shooting isn't know...and the investigation remains ongoing.
