(Jan. 2, 2015) -- Retried LBPD Commander and cancer survivor Josef Levy is busily organizing the 5th annual Chrissy Strong-Marshall Memorial Kickball Tournament (Jan. 24, El Dorado Park) and actively seeking monetary donations, gift cards and other items for the silent auction and (very imporatant) corporate sponsors for this year's event.

Cancer survivor Levy says all donations are tax deductible and tournament proceeds will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation [which Commander Levy led in creating after his cancer diagnosis] and to Team Chrissy as they take part in the Annual Walk for Hope benefiting the City of Hope. Corporate sponsors will also have their business name and logo displayed on the tournament banner and t-shirt plus an engraved plaque presented during opening ceremonies.

Commander Levy writes about his friend, Chrissy Strong Marshall, as follows:

Chrissy was a dear friend of mine and a Bureau Manager for the City of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department. As Bureau Manager, Chrissy was responsible for overseeing all recreation programs for the City of Long Beach.

Chrissy was known for her passion and dedication to the Long Beach Community and fought for inclusiveness of all people. But while fighting for others, Chrissy was fighting her own battle. The battle of cancer, that she valiantly fought for seven years, until she passed away in 2009 at the age of forty.

Each year, this popular tournament brings together Long Beach City Employees and friends to participant in a fun-filled day while raising funds for two worthwhile charities.

The National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation, which will benefit from the donated sums and items, provides [release text] free emotional support, guidance and resources to all members of the law enforcement community, during a cancer experience. As a volunteer-driven, donor supported nationwide organization, National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation members comprise a network of law enforcement cancer survivors who are committed to serve others by upholding bravery, faith, strength and courage during a cancer journey.

Commander Levy adds: "On behalf of the Board of Directors of the National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation (LECSF), I am asking for your generous support by becoming a Corporate Sponsor for this year’s tournament...I hope you will support our work and help us to continue to fulfill our very important mission."

He invites visitors to the National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation website at www.lecsf.net and to email him personally at joelevy@lecfs.net.
