(Jan. 15, 2015, 6:50 p.m.) -- Three ballot-listed candidates will compete in April for election to the City Council in districts 2, 6 and 8; the 6th district's term limited incumbent indicated a few months ago that he plans to pursue a write-in campaign; and the 4th district Council incumbent (elected last year to complete the remainder of the previous incumbent's term) is on his way to election to his first first full four year term, subject only to a write-in candidate surfacing in the coming weeks.
That's the bottom line from the City Clerk's office's announcement at early evening tonight (Jan. 15) that the following individuals properly completed and filed paperwork enabling their names to appear as ballot-listed candidates in the April 12 City Council elections in districts 2, 4, 6 and 8. (Order below is as provided by City Clerk; ballot order will be determined by random draw in coming days.)

A candidate who receives 50%+1 votes in April is elected; if no candidate receives 50%+1 in April, the top two finishers proceed to a decisional June runoff. The winners take office on July 15, 2016. Under LB's term limits law, sixth district Council incumbent Dee Andrews (first elected in 2007) won't be listed on the April ballot but is allowed to wage a write-in campaign. If he finishes first or second among 6th district candidates in April, he'll proceed to a June runoff with his name listed on the ballot. If he's not among the top two finishers in April, he's out of office effective July 15 The outcome of the April-June election cycle will impact all LB Council districts because all Councilmembers have co-equal voting power on development, land use, budget spending and citywide policies.
