(Jan. 1, 2016 multiple updates, latest Jan. 2, 7:30 a.m.) -- As reported on Jan. 1 with multiple updates including LIVE and on-demand on-scene video by LBREPORT.com, a quiet New Year's Day morning turned to horror for a North Wrigley family after an armed carjacking suspect, pursued by LAPD, drove an allegedly stolen car onto Wardlow Rd., crashed the vehicle near Maine Ave-Daisy Ave., ran into a nearby house, allegedly stabbed one of its familymembers, shot two others while another escaped but was injured, then apparently turned the gun on himself.

By late afternoon Jan 1, LBREPORT.com learned via an LAPD PIO on scene that three of the residents/victims had been treated and released form hospitals; one (a shooting victim) remained hospitalized but reportedly in good condition.

It was the immediate end, while LAPD's investigation continues, into incidents that began in or around the Carson / southbay area [details still not clear from LAPD as dawn breaks Jan. 2.]

[Scroll down for further.]

LAPD PIOs indicated on-scene Jan. 1 that at about 9:30 a.m. an off-duty LAPD officer spotted a vehicle recognized as allegedly involved in a Dec. 31 carjacking and pursuit. LAPD [Harbor Div. Watch Commander] Sgt. Bradley Hearn told NBCLosAngeles that one suspect got out of the allegedly stolen VW Passat, then allegedly stole an SUV, firing shots at its occupants who were unharmed. The suspect then drove off in the stolen SUV...and for reasons currently unknown came to Long Beach. (The second suspect fled in the Passat and remains at large.)

Sgt. Hearn said the suspect in the SUV crashed at Maine Avenue/Wardlow Road, then entered a home in the 3300 block of Daisy Avenue, where he allegedly shot two of the home's four occupants multiple times and stabbed another. [One resident was able to escape through a window but was injured.]

Sgt. Hearn says officers approached the house, heard gunshots from inside, made entry and found the suspect down and two people shot inside the residence...and it appears the suspect then turned the gun on himself. Sgt. Hearn said LAPD fired no shots.

This was an LAPD incident and crime scene; LBPD basically assisted with traffic control and the like.

Residents reported LA media trucks were in the area for "live shots" in late afternoon and evening newscasts. (LBREPORT.com already had the basics of the story, with video, online hours earlier.)

The investigation continues and many questions (obviously) remain. Further as we learn it on LBREPORT.com.

Our text above is updated to indicate that Sgt. Hearn is a Harbor Division Watch Commander, not an LAPD PIO.

The area is also better described as "North Wrigley" (instead of Wrigley Heights in earlier text.
