(Jan. 18, 2017, 10:30 a.m.) -- The tournament is RESCHEDULED (due to forecast rain and storms) to SUNDAY, FEB. 26 at 8 a.m. at the same location.
(Jan. 5, 2017, 5:10 p.m.) -- Retired LBPD Commander and cancer survivor Josef Levy is organizing the 6th annual Chrissy Strong-Marshall Memorial Kickball Tournament (Sat. Jan. 21, El Dorado Park baseball fields) and welcomes your help.

The event annually brings together Long Beach city employees and friends to participate in a fun filled event while raising funds for two life-supportive entities: the National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation and the City of Hope.

Commander Levy (now retired from LBPD) and Steve Bowles (Seal Beach PD Sergeant) created the non-profit National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation to provide free emotional support, guidance and resources to members of the law enforcement community during a cancer experience. As a volunteer-driven, donor supported nationwide organization, National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation members comprise a network of law enforcement cancer survivors who are committed to serve others by upholding bravery, faith, strength and courage during a cancer journey.

In a release, Commander Levy writes that Chrissy Strong-Marshall "was a friend to many and a former Bureau Manager for the City of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department. As Bureau Manager, Chrissy was responsible for overseeing all recreation programs in the City of Long Beach. Chrissy was known for her passion and dedication to the Long Beach Community and promoted inclusion for all people. But while fighting for others, Chrissy was fighting her own battle against cancer, which she valiantly fought for seven years, until she passed away in 2009 at the age of forty."

At this year's Tournament named in her honor, sixteen teams will battle it out on the field with the winning team taking home bragging rights and the coveted trophy. The Long Beach Police Officers Association will also be providing a free BBQ lunch to all participants.

The National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation has a Facebook page at this link and a website describing their work in detail at at this link.

Retired Commander Levy invites those interested in becoming a tournament sponsor or making a donation to contact him at (562) 577-5874.
