(Jan. 18, 2017, 2:30 p.m.) -- Cong. Alan Lowenthal (D, Long Beach-West OC) today (Jan. 18) issued a statement (which LBREPORT.com publishes in full below) announcing that he won't attend the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
Cong. Lowenthal's statement refers to a controversy that began when Cong. John Lewis (D, GA), a Civil Rights icon after surviving a savage police beating in the 1965 Selma Alabama Civic Rights march, who told NBC's "Meet the Press" that he doesn't see Mr. Trump as a "legitimate President" and doesn't plan to attend Trump's inauguration. President-elect Trump responded via Twitter: [President-elect Trump Twitter text] Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to...mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad! And President-elect Trump subsequently charged via Twitter that part of what Cong. Lewis told NBC News about Lewis' record wasn't accurate: John Lewis said about my inauguration, 'It will be the first one that I’ve missed.' WRONG (or lie)! He boycotted Bush 43 also because he thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush's swearing-in because...he doesn’t believe Bush is the true elected president.' Sound familiar!
