(Jan. 20, 2017, 6:20 p.m.) -- Long Beach received another drenching today (Fri. Jan. 20) from the second in a series of three storms. and the City used its social network connections to remind residents to be aware of their surroundings, especially around trees (mindfull of some falling trees and tree limbs.)

Long Beach Airport recorded 0.38" of rain between 3:53 a.m.-9:53 a.m...followed by 0.80" within a three hour period from 9:53 a.m. and 12:53 p.m., producing 1:18" of rain within nine hours.

The water-logged ground, plus wind gusts up to 25 mph, felled trees regionally and proved too much for a number of trees in LB, including the one below in ELB on Rosebay St. east of Monogram Ave. (near Cubberley School.)

The City also reported tree limbs and trees down in El Dorado Park, Rec Park, Heartwell Park, Houghton Park and Scherer Park.

City of Long Beach Public Affairs Officer Kerry Gerot cites this advisory on the City's Facebook page.

[City of Long Beach text] Due to the inordinate amount of rain in a short period of time, over-saturated ground and high winds, throughout Southern California we are experiencing significant tree failures, including this one at El Dorado Park West. Please be cautious as you're recreating in and around our trees here in Long Beach.

Ms. Gerot says city crews and department staff were prepared and responded once again to situations as they arose.

We're told that in the noon hour, Park Ave. south of 2nd St. was full of water, over some curbs.

LBREPORT.com saw flood control channels flowing well with no overtopping of the channels that we know of. Photo below shows a major ELB flood control channel between Palo Verde and Woodruff Ave., viewed looking north from the Willow St. overcrossing.
