(Jan. 18, 2017, 6:05 a.m.) -- A few hours after Donald Trump takes the oath of office on Friday Jan. 20 and becomes the 45th President of the United States, opponents plan to march and rally in downtown Long Beach while supporters will celebrate at SE LB's iconic 49'rs Tavern.

In a media release, the "May Day Long Beach Coalition" indicates that from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Jan. 20, its supporters will march and rally from Harvey Milk Park (3rd St @ Promenade) to Promenade Square (1st St @ Promenade). The group describes itself as "a coalition of 19 diverse community organizations that are united by a belief in the power of the people. May Day Long Beach is pro-immigrant, pro-workers, pro-human rights, pro-social justice, and pro-Black Lives Matter" and explains its Inauguration Day event as follows:

[May Day Long Beach Coalition" release text] The May Day Long Beach Coalition strongly condemns President-Elect Donald J. Trump's attacks on Muslims, people of color, immigrants, differently-abled people, women, the LGBTQ community, and the working class. As Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty." Therefore, the Coalition calls on all Long Beach residents to resist President-Elect Trump's administration, anti-people policies, and attacks on marginalized and minority communities. We call on all of Long Beach to join the "Long Beach United Against Trump March" on January 20th in Harvey Milk Park. When the people of Long Beach unite, we can win.

Meanwhile, across town in southeast Long Beach, the 49'rs Tavern (5660 E. PCH @ Bellflower Blvd.) will be the site of a local celebration of President Trump's inauguration. The iconic LB tavern will open at its usual time with celebrations expected to get underway about 6 p.m. and multi-screen video of DC inaugural balls on their multiple TV screens.

The location became the de facto L.A. media market Trump victory venue (drawing multiple L.A. TV news vans) when supporters -- including a sizable number from LB's Cambodian community -- gathered for a victory party despite predictions of Mr. Trump's defeat. 49'rs Tavern owner Tracy Kittinger, a former LB political consultant (who helped Dee Andrews win his 2007 Council election victory with support from LB's Cambodian community) predicted Trump's win early on. "It was obvious to me and should have been obvious to others that the Clinton campaign and their pollsters were fooling themselves and trying to fool others," she calmly commented at the time. (For VIDEO coverage of the 49'rs crowd reaction as news broke that Mr. Trump had won the states producing an electoral vote victory margin, click here.)

Ms. Kittinger writes on her Facebook page: "On January 20, come join us to celebrate the inauguration of Donald Trump, at the 49rs Tavern, 5660 E. Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, CA. We had the Election night at the 49rs and it was packed. We look forward to sharing the victory with you. Even if you weren't for Trump, but would like to join us and enjoy visiting with friends, please do. Christmas is back in America. Thank you Donald." Ms. Kittinger adds: "If you want to celebrate and not have to dress up, join us."
