(Jan. 3, 2018) -- LBPD Detectives swiftly identified and arrested two suspects, and earlier today (Jan. 3) the L.A. County DA's office filed felony charges against the pair, in connection with the murder of a man who appeared to be homeless and was found dead in an alley at dawn on New Year's Eve roughly a block south of St. Mary Medical Center.
In a release, LBPD says that after a follow-up investigation, homicide detectives, with the assistance of patrol officers, arrested Ernest Weston, 87, and James Pettie, 58, both of Long Beach (and arrested in the 400 block of E. 5th St.) in connection with the murder of Todd Dunlap, 45, of Long Beach. "The victim and suspects were known to one another and had become involved in a dispute prior to the murder," LBPD says in a Jan. 3 release. The DA's office has filed one count alleging murder, and one count alleging possession of a dangerous weapon, against defendant Weston, and one count alleging accessory to murder against defendant Pettie. The two are now in L.A. County jail with bail set at $2 million each. [Scroll down for further.] |
