Long Beach's First Shooting In First Hour Of 2018 Is Fatal: Area 6th/Temple

(Jan. 1, 2018. updated 8:35 p.m. from initial 7:35 a.m.) -- Long Beach had its first shooting in the first hour of 2018 (6th/Temple area, Rose Park South Neighborhood, 2nd Council district) and the victim, taken to a hospital, did not survive.
Initial information is sketchy. LBPD Watch Commander Lt. Omar Martinez tells LBREPORT.com that LBPD was dispatched at roughly 12:30 a.m., found a man (adult) had been shot. LBFD transported him to a hospital in serious condition...and he subsequently expired.
There's no motive or suspect information immediately available.
[UPDATE] In a release, LBPD identifies the deceased as Gerlad Jackson III, age 22, of Long Beach. The release indicates it's unknown if what took place was gang related. [end UPDATE]
It's the second LB homicide within two days. On New Year's Eve, a man believed to be homeless was found dead (apparently fatally struck in the head with a blunt object) in an alley just south of St. Mary Medical Center (LBREPORT.com coverage here.)
