Passenger In Car Shot To Death, Driver & Another Passenger Wounded From Adjacent Vehicle On Artesia Blvd Near 710 Fwy

(July 14, 2003) -- A LB man riding in a car travelling along Artesia Blvd. near the 710 freeway was shot to death, and the driver and another passenger were wounded, when an SUV or truck pulled alongside them -- and its occupants opened fire.

LBPD says that this morning at 12:30 a.m. a 1980's model Cadillac with five occupants headed west on Artesia crossing the 710 in the 9th Council district was hit by gunfire from an adjacent vehicle. 35 yr. old Avery Radcliff of LB, a passenger, died at the scene; the driver suffered a serious gunshot injury and a 17-yr old female passenger received a non-life threatening wound.

The suspects are described as two male African-Americans in their 20's driving a dark colored SUV or truck. Police investigators don't know the motive for the shooting but LBPD said ina written release it is being considered as possibly gang related.
