LB Little League Will Inaugurate New Scoreboard And Remember LBLL Supporter Mike Murphy, July 6 @ Stearns Park

(July 4, 2003) -- Two memorable events will take place at ELB's Stearns Champions Park on Sunday, July 6.

On that day, LB Little League will fire up a new, state of the art scoreboard for the first time. The impressive new device -- which we hope will record many LB Little League runs and few errors -- was made possible through the generosity of BMI & Safeco Insurance Cos.

On July 3, workers prepared the site for the new scoreboard by removing the old, still functioning scoreboard (donated by Fromex Photo lab) which will be moved to Field 2.LB Little League old scoreboard, July 3/03

The new scoreboard will be inaugurated on Sunday July 6 @ 12 noon at Field One, now officially known as Mike Murphy Field.

On June 28, Mr. Murphy, a long time LB Little League fan and supporter, passed away.

On July 6, LB Little League will remember Murph...on the field of dreams now bearing his name.

LB Little League will also be hosting some of the District 38 All-Star games. Of course, there'll be games, free hot dogs and sodas.

The first game of the day will be at 9:30 a.m...with the last game at 6:30 p.m. It's free...and the public is invited.

In the coming weeks, LB Little League will also be making roughly $15,500 worth of improvements to the baseball fields and surrounding areas in Stearns Park, installing sprinklers, fencing, landscaping and concrete work using both volunteer labor and the services of a licensed contractor...and LB Little League has agreed to be responsible for maintenance of the improvements. (On July 1, the City Council authorized an agreement with LB Little League for the donation of these improvements).
