(July 9, 2004) -- 5th district Councilwoman Jackie Kell has agendized the following item for the July 13 City Council meeting:
"In light of the recent discovery of dead birds and live mosquitoes being found in Long Beach, I would ask that the Mayor and City Council be given a report on the City's current efforts to deal with the spreading West Nile Virus threat. Additionally, I would ask that the report also include how the City is working with other local agencies since this is a regional matter."
LBReport.com has separately learned that officials of the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District, which handles mosquito abatement in roughly half of LB (north of PCH, east of Lakewood Blvd., meaning nearly all of Councilwoman Kell's district) have also been advised of the agenda item and invited to participate.
The item is number 12 on the City Council agenda, although the Mayor and Council are free to take items out of order if they wish.
