News Suspected Arsonist Appears To Have Struck In Wrigley-Area; Help LB Arson Team Find Him
(July 20, 2006) -- LBFD is asking for the public's help in tracking down a suspected arsonist who appears to have struck in the Wrigley-area.
LBFD says it responded to a number of fires in the past week that appear to have been deliberately set in the area of 21st Street/Long Beach Boulevard. The fires occurred in alleyways, out of public view and involved City trash dumpsters and/or abandoned furniture; some fires were set next to structures that could have extended further.
Arson Investigators say they have on record several other similar type fires in this same general area in the past six months, including a flower store at 21st Street/Pacific Avenue that sustained extensive damage to the exterior of the structure from a fire set next to the building. LBFD Arson Investigators have video footage from two different locations that shows what appears to be the same person igniting fires and fleeing the area.
In both cases the suspect appears to be an African-American male, 15-20 years old.
