LBPD Asks: Have You Seen This Hit & Run Suspect Vehicle Or Its Driver?

(July 7, 2006) -- LBPD's Violent Crimes Unit is asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of the type of vehicle, below, which was allegedly involved in a hit and run on July 4, 2006 shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the area of Carson Blvd. and Cherry Ave.

The suspect vehicle (examples below), a newer convertible Mercedes Benz, Toyota Solara or similar type vehicle, dark blue or black, with a black convertible top and chrome rims, may be in an auto body shop or hidden in a garage or parking structure. The vehicle would have damage to the front bumper, hood and possibly to the front window.

In a release, LBPD says its investigation determined that the victim of the hit and run, Joseph Perez, 22, of Rancho Dominguez was engaged in a verbal argument with the suspect while they were both in the drive-thru of a Del Taco restaurant. Police say the suspect sped away from the drive-thru and out to the intersection of Cherry/Carson...and the victim ran out to the suspect's vehicle on foot and continued to engage the suspect verbally.

LBPD says the suspect was observed backing his vehicle away from the victim...and then allegedly intentionally driving towards the victim, striking him with his car before fleeing the location southbound on Cherry Avenue out of sight. The hit and run suspect allegedly left the victim critically injured in the street.

Suspect driver: A male white, 30-50 years old, with light colored hair...and possibly wears glasses.
