Extended Photo Coverage Big Crowds In Bixby Knolls: 3rd Annual BK Dragster Expo & Car Show Breaks Attendance & Exhibitor Records

(July 13, 2008) -- LBReport.com provides extended photo coverage of the 3rd annual Bixby Knolls Dragster Expo and Car Show...which brought visibly large crowds along Atlantic Ave. on Saturday (July 12).
The event was hosted by Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Ass'n...and BKBIA Executive Director Blair Cohn conservatively estimates (preliminary numbers) that at minimum 10,000 people walked the area between San Antonio Dr. and Roosevelt Rd. during a six hour period between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
That's a record number of visitors to the three year old event...which featured double the number of cars this year.
We captured the images on this page between about 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Event supporters included the LB Grand Prix Ass'n...and Grand Prix President/CEO Jim Michaelian was among the attendees.

Retired LBPD Commander/former LB Water Commissioner Charles Parks peruses the history of a classic car.

"Beep Beep, Beep Beep, His Horn Went Beep Beep Beep" probably played on this 1957 Nash Metropolitan's AM Radio (song was a hit in '58). Too bad Detroit isn't making these now...with three speed transmission on the steering column and decent gas mileage.

This cab was from Long Beach. Look at the phone number on the side...
HEmlock, today's "43" LB prefix.
The Dragster Expo and Car Show was produced and sanctioned by the Professional Dragster Ass'n in cooperation with the City of LB...and 8th district Councilmember Rae Gabelich playing a major role. Her husband, the late Gary Gabelich, is a member of LB's Motor Sports Walk of Fame...winning multiple titles and in 1970 setting a world land speed record (622+ mph) in a rocket-powered vehicle.
