(July 26, 2009) -- LB's Summer & Music concert series drew hundreds of people to Pine Ave. at the shore on Saturday (July 25) for a "Battle of the Tribute Bands."
Seven groups re-created groups spanning forty years of rock 'n' roll...with Vitalogy ("Pearl Jam") and No Duh ("No Doubt") making it into an early evening runoff.
Summer & Music co-organizer Rand Foster (owner of Belmont Shore's "Fingerprints") said the runoff was so close that a decibel meter was brought in (to measure audience applause/cheers)...and No Duh won.
LBReport.com captured video of Vitalogy and No Duh in their afternoon opening sets (prior to the runoff).
Our demographically incorrect favorite -- "Satisfaction" reprising The Rolling Stones -- didn't make the runoff (there is no justice) but delivered a high energy set that included "Start Me Up," "Honky Tonk Women," "Brown Sugar," "Let's Spend the Night Together" and "Satisfaction."
Event co-organizer Rand Foster estimated the crowd at about 1,000 at its height. We saw about 400-500 people at midafternoon with a steady flow of people arriving as others left.
Among those spotted in the crowd: 4th dist. Councilman Patrick O'Donnell (kidlet in tow); LB art-scene omnipresence Antonio Ruiz; live-music supporter/Charter Communications LB programming exec. Ron Petke; and SinkTheBreakwater.com's Dale Brown.
