(July 26, 2009) -- With one week to go until the opening of the Wrigley Village Community Garden at 2044 Pacific Ave., community volunteers, gardening fans and young people grabbed shovels and pitchforks and mulched the site on Saturday July 25.
A sweat-inducing muggy morning didn't deter participants. LBReport.com was on-scene [to our knowledge, the only LB news outlet to attend] and we provide video coverage below:
An August 1 opening celebration scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (public invited) with a ribbon-cutton scheduled for 11:30 a.m. is expected to draw dignitaries and guests.
The event will be hosted by LB's Neighborhood Leadership Program, LB Organic, Wrigley Ass'n, Central LB Redevelopment Project Area Committee and the LB Redevelopment Agency.
The Wrigley Village Community Garden on Pacific Ave. is planned to last five years and potentially longer.
A separately organized community garden opened last week in the 1900 block of Henderson Ave. that is contemplated to last two years at that location.
