"Hugh's Bite Nite" Created To Help Hugh Boyle (Critically Injured @ Palo Verde/Stearns): Eat At These Three LB Eateries On Mon. Nite July 26 And Portion of Meal Ticket Goes To Family

(July 21, 2010) -- In multiple stories, LBReport.com has followed developments concerning Hugh Boyle, the ELB resident and motorcyclist who sustained critical injuries in a June 21 collision at Palo Verde/Stearns.

LBReport.com has now learned via Facebook that friends of the family have organized "Hugh's Bite Nite" on Monday, July 26, a creative and delicious way to help the family by simply eating at one of three participating LB restaurants (listed below) that have agreed to donate a portion of their meal tickets directly to the family.

The participating restaurants are:

  • La Strada Restaurant, 4716 East 2nd Street, Long Beach (Belmont Shore)

  • Marri's Pizza, 6436 E. Stearns St., Long Beach (Los Altos area, near the accident site)

  • Naples Rib Company, 5800 E. 2nd Street, Long Beach, CA (Naples/Bel Shore area)

Friends of the family have used the internet creatively before. Just days after the accident, they used Facebook to announce a grassroots front lawn garage sale to help the family. LBReport.com learned of the garage sale event via Facebook and did a live webcast from the location. The event drew people the family hadn't previously met including LB community activist P.G. Herman, Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal and former LB Councilman Evan Braude. (LBReport.com webcast participants included Bill Pearl, Dan Halverson, Joe Mello and Daryl Supernaw, none of whom knew the family or friends prior to the accident).

The event has a Facebook page: click here.

The event is also tweating on Twitter with the following hash-tag: #hughsbitenite.

Hugh's wife Shelley (who operates an internet-based home-based business) has maintained an eloquent and sometimes excruciating daily blog describing what he, and she, and their daughter are undergoing, along with ways to help. To view it, click here.

We are very pleased to report that Mr. Boyle has survived. He has been moved out of intensive care. He sustained very serious injuries and now faces a lengthy period of rehabilitation and recovery.
