Now It's Murder: Man Dies After Being Shot Fri. July 20, Area Ohio Ave. Just South of Anaheim St.

(July 21, 2012) -- Now, it's (another) murder in the 4th Council district.

A shooting we reported Friday night July 20 that took place about 7:30 p.m. in the area of area of Ohio Avenue/Anaheim St. has resulted in a death of a man (adult).

In a release today (July 21), LBPD says its preliminary investigation indicates that two groups of males "were on Ohio Avenue just south of Anaheim Street when they became involved in a confrontation."

[LBPD release text] One subject from a group pulled out a gun and fired several rounds into the other group, striking one individual. That victim was struck multiple times in the torso, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, and pronounced deceased later in the evening. He is only being identified as a 21-year-old male, believed to be from Long Beach, until next of kin can be notified.

A motive for the shooting is undetermined, but the incident is being investigated as gang-related. No suspect information is available at this time.

On July 9, a man was shot and killed a block north of Anaheim and about two blocks east of Cherry Ave.

On July 5, a man from Las Vegas was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a parked car in the 1300 block of Temple Ave. (just north of Anaheim St.)

The latest crime scene is in the western part of the 4th Council district, where incumbent Patrick O'Donnell was re-elected to a third term in June with the support of independent campaigns funded by political action committees operated by the leadership of the LB Police Officers Ass'n, LB Firefighters Ass'n and L.A. County Federation of Labor.
