| (July 17, 2012, 6:55 a.m.) -- Fire and police activity yesterday (July 16) in the 6300 block of E. PCH (Marina Pacifica area) stemmed from a construction related fire that left one worker injured from a "flash" electrical fire...with flames and smoke for a time blocking the escape of workers on a rooftop.
LBFD Public Information Officer Will Nash told LBReport.com that work was being done at a small business location (former Jamba Juice, will now be some new business) and a worker was opening an electric panel when something flashed/arc'ed (cause undetermined for now). The worker suffered burns and a fire simultaneously ignited, leaving workers on the roof unable to get down via their ladder with smoke and flames blocking their way. LBFD responded (including Engine 8, Light Force 17, BC 2, Engine 22, Rescues 14 and 2, perhaps others) and quickly douse the flames. LBPD was on scene for traffic control. (A number of LBReport.com readers emailed/texted us about the FD and PD presence, thank you). The injured worker was treated and taken to a hosptial. The rooftop workers were offered an LBFD ladder...but once the fire was out managed to get down using their formerly flame-smoke-blocked ladder.
