(July 7, 2013) -- Residents in the southern Cal Hts area heard and saw police activity Saturday night (July 6) but not from LBPD. As first reported on LBREPORT.com's front page, a high speed CHP pursuit ended at approximately 8:45 p.m. Saturday night (July 6) with a suspect taken into custody in the area of the Atlantic Ave. (north) offramp from the northbound 405 freeway.
A witness in the area said he observed over a dozen (closer to two dozen) CHP units at the scene and at least one helicopter overhead when the pursuit ended. Details on Sunday morning (July 7) at dawn remain sketchy. CHP Public Information Officer Tommy Doerr tells LBREPORT.com that the events began in Valley Center in San Diego County with a reported stolen vehicle. The San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. began the pursuit which went from Valley Center onto the southbound 15 where CHP took over. The suspect vehicle headed south on the 15, west on the 56, north on the 5 into OC and onto the 405 in L.A. County. A driver on the 405 estimated speeds in Long Beach were about 100 mph. Details weren't available but the suspect vehicle ended up on the Atlantic Ave. (north) exit (the gateway to Cal Hts/Bixby Knolls) where a single suspect bailed out of the vehicle and was swiftly apprehended. CHP had no immediate information on whether the suspect was armed. No one appeared to be injured at the scene blog comments powered by Disqus
