|
(July 5, 2013, updated 10:45 p.m.) -- An ELB resident reports that on July 3 her cat was mutilated by coyotes...and says police told her that two coyotes have been sighted in the area between Millikan High School (Palo Verde/Spring) and El Dorado Park. The resident says the police indicated there have been a number of missing small dogs and cats in the area.
The resident concludes that the sighted coyotes are using this area as a hunting ground for food sources...which could mean one's pet(s) if left outside. UPDATE: Additional resident dispatches on Facebook variously indicate coyote sightings in the Plaza area (Spring/Palo Verde) near Cubberley School (late June), along Los Coyotes Diagonal near Bellflower (late June), Redondo/Stearns (late June), Mezzanine between Woodruff and San Anseline (approx. late May), Iroquois/Pageantry (no date), Clark/Willow (no date), Woodruff/Molaco (no date). [end update] Long Beach's Dept. of Animal Care Services (animal control) has this useful FAQ re coyotes, click here. If you wish to report a coyote sighting online, use this form The coyotes have been in and around ELB for a long time (hence Coyote Creek and Los Coyotes Diagonal) so take care to protect your pets, small children...and yourselves. blog comments powered by Disqus
