(July 10, 2013, text updated 10:38 p.m.) -- Responding to a request by LBREPORT.com for information on July 4 fireworks and other incidents, LBPD indicates it received 1,381 total phone calls (down from 1,475 in 2012) between 5 p.m.-midnight, over a third of which related to fireworks.

Information provided LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Aaron Eaton indicates that LBPD received 520 total fireworks calls (officer dispatched) and heard-only (no officer response) between 5 p.m.-midnight. [We don't have the numbers of officer-dispatched vs. no-officer-dispatched fireworks calls.] This compared to 498 total fireworks calls in 2012.

35 fireworks citations were issued citywide (44 were issued in 2012.) No fireworks-related arrests were made.

And in a July 4th enforcement operation conducted along the waterfront (not counting the rest of the city): LBPD made 27 arrests (24 for people drunk in public; 3 for warrants) and issued 4 BBQ citations, 14 traffic citations, 19 alcohol citations, 120 parking citations and had 4 unattended bag calls.

In addition, LBPD notes that on July 4th:

  • No major violent crime occurred throughout the city

  • No major incidents occurred during July 4th celebrations along the waterfront

  • Prior to the holiday, a significant amount of time was devoted to developing the citywide deployment plan

  • LBPD conducted an aggressive media and social media campaign involving multiple city departments. This included numerous sign boards positioned at several spots near city borders.
