Doug Otto for Mayor Campaign Reports Raising $70k (Jan-June 2013); See Details And Contributors

(July 30, 2013, with text revision) -- Doug Otto's Mayoral campaign reports receiving contributions totaling $70,158 during the period Jan. 1-June 30, 2013.

49 of the Otto campaign's 140 contributors (35%) list addresses outside the City of Long Beach. The actual percentage of non-Long Beach residents may be higher, since the law lets contributors list their business addresses, which may be in Long Beach, although the contributor may not live in Long Beach. [LBREPORT.com plans to apply this metric to all candidates whose campaign contributions we report in the 2014 City of Long Beach election cycle.]

Among the contributors we noticed: Joseph Prevratil (headed Queen Mary lessee QSDI which sought bankruptcy protection after city officials no longer accepted previously accepted practices) and Ron Salk (former member of Airport Advisory Commission who supported larger Airport terminal area expansion than City Council approved.)

Doug Otto Announces Major Community Support for Mayoral Campaign

Doug Otto, 2014 Long Beach Mayoral candidate, announced today that in just two months he raised more than $70,000 from individual contributors.

"I am gratified by the level of individual support I have received this early in my campaign for Mayor of Long Beach," said Otto. "I believe that the support comes from those who know that I have a lifetime commitment to building a great Long Beach."

As of June 30, Otto received nearly 140 individual contributions to his campaign. The maximum contribution allowable by for any individual in the mayoral campaign is $750.

Los Angeles County Supervisor and Doug Otto supporter Don Knabe states, "Doug is one of the most engaged civic leaders in our community. He is known for his tenacity when he is committed to a greater good. He is a guy that turns visions into reality and, he is the right choice for Mayor of Long Beach."

"Doug Otto has a long track record of service to Long Beach," said supporter and former Long Beach Unified School District Administrator Dr. Bill Marmion. "I have known Doug since he was a student at Millikan High School, and his continued commitment to Long Beach is unmatched. His leadership and talents are just what our city needs."

Doug, a three-term Long Beach City College Trustee, has lived and worked as a private practice attorney in Long Beach for more than 30 years. During that time he has been a leader in education, economic development, civic and community affairs. He has had leadership roles on the boards of the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Long Beach Arts Council, St. Mary Medical Center and the Long Beach Planning Commission. Otto also chaired the Long Beach 2010 Strategic Plan.

"Mayor Beverly O’Neill charted a strong path for Long Beach followed by Mayor Foster who brought the city through unprecedented economic challenges," said Otto. "Long Beach's next mayor will benefit from the foundation laid by these two leaders, and will guide the city in developing a new vision. I am excited by this opportunity to help build the city we want for our children and our grandchildren." [end text]

An earlier version of this story included text indicating that Mr. Otto's campaign had 70 contributors when the number was 140. We included the campaign's full release with the proper figure and when the error was called to our attention, we corrected the figure in a little over two hours. LBREPORT.com regrets our error.
