UPDATE: LBPD Releases Composite Sketch Of This "Person Of Interest" In Investigation Of Jan. 2009 Murder of 76 Yr Old Great-Grandmother In Central LB. Do You Recognize This Man?

Victim survived Cambodia's Murderous Khmer Rouge but was murdered in her Central Long Beach home

(UPDATE (July 25, 2013) -- Less than 48 hours ago, LBREPORT.com reported that LBPD believes someone who was in or around the area of 15th St./Peterson Ave. in or about January 2009 may hold the key to solving the January 2009 murder of 76 year old Leam Sovanasy, the mother of seven children, grandmother of 20 and great-grandmother of six, found stabbed to death in her home.

Today (July 25), LBPD informed LBREPORT.com and media outlets that as a result of the media's recent coverage of the murder, "new witness information has become available that has allowed Homicide detectives to now release a composite sketch of a person of interest in this investigation [below]. The LBPD is appreciative of any/all coverage provided, both past and future."

LBREPORT.com now publishes that composite sketch:

In an updated release issued simultaneously with the composite sketch, LBPD states:

[LBPD text, release issued July 25] On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, Long Beach Police Homicide detectives, with the assistance of Long Beach Search & Rescue, distributed flyers in and around the area of 14th Street and Peterson Avenue, hoping to generate new leads in the January 31, 2009 murder of 76-year-old Leam Sovanasy.

As a result of that operation, detectives have received an outpouring of support from the community, including new information about a person of interest.

Detectives have been provided a description of a person that has been seen driving a car similar to the one depicted in the stock photo [below], (4-door white Chevrolet Caprice Classic), that was released on July 23rd.

A sketch artist has created a composite sketch of this individual [above], based on the physical description given by a witness.

Detectives are hopeful that the community will come forward with information relating to the identity of this person, and/or information on the vehicle described above.

Anyone with information is strongly encouraged to contact Homicide Detectives Teryl Hubert and Mark Bigel at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.

LBPD noted in its July 23 release that Ms. Sovanasy (photo below) was a Cambodian immigrant who survived the murderous Khmer Rouge regime, only to be violently murdered in her Long Beach home. "Detectives have been actively working this case since it occurred in January of 2009," it said. "Detectives are hoping that anyone with any information related to this murder...will come forward." .
