(July 11, 2015, 6:55 p.m) -- As flashed on LBREPORT.com's front page before dawn today (July 11), a man was shot and suffered severe injuries in the 2 a.m. hour in the 2400 block of Linden Ave.

It's the third shooting in three days in LB's 6th Council district...in which one of the victims has now died (LBREPORT.com separate coverage, click here.)

LBPD overnight watch commander Lt. David Faris told LBREPORT.com in the predawn hours that at about 2:22 a.m., units were dispatched to the 2400 block of Linden Ave. regarding a shots-fired call. Officers found shell casings...and learned that man (adult) victim had been dropped off at a hospital. The victim underwent surgery in the 3 a.m. hour and at that time was described in critical condition. Due the extent of his injuries, LBPD's homicide unit was notified (in the predawn hours) and responded [the victim is alive.]

LBPD is investigating the shooting as possibly gang related and at this point there is no suspect information.

LB's 6th Council district has been represented since early 2007 by Councilman Dee Andrews, who recently announced that he will wage a write-in campaign to seek another four year term in office in an April 2016 election.

In September 2014, Councilman Andrews voted with a unanimous Council (9-0) to approve City Hall's current budget (FY15) that no longer funds LBPD's field anti-gang unit. LBPD has an anti-gang unit (which does investigative work, etc.) but the Council no longer funds its field anti-gang unit, which had been comprised of 22 sworn officers (20 officers + 2 sergeants.)
