(July 27, 2015) -- A sharp eyed LBPD officer spotted a midnight hour commercial burglary in progress at the NW corner Clark/Willow, chased the suspect on foot, caught up with him, took him into custody, radio'd a description of a suspect vehicle that left the scene, which officers located and stopped...and took its driver into custody.

The events played out in the early hours this morning (July 27). LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt tells LBREPORT.com:

  • On Monday, 7/27/15 at approx. 12:10 a.m., an officer observed a burglary occurring to a restaurant in the 2600 block of Clark Avenue.

  • The officer was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Clark Avenue and Willow Street when he observed a male subject smash the glass door of the business and enter

  • A vehicle believed to be the suspect vehicle fled the location, and the officer aired the vehicle description over the police radio

  • The officer drove over to the business and then observed the suspect exit and flee on foot

  • The officer chased the suspect on foot and was able to catch up to him a short distance away where he was taken into custody

  • The suspect vehicle was located and stopped in the area of Los Coyotes Diagonal and Heather Avenue and the driver was also taken into custody

  • The suspects are only being identified at this time as male adults, due to the ongoing investigation

  • Both were booked for commercial burglary and are being held on $20,000 bail; neither are LB residents
