(July 24, 2016, 3:25 p.m.) -- Three Long Beach firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and were taken to a hospital after battling a fire -- that went to a second alarm -- in the 1000 block of E. Broadway in LB's Alamitos Beach neighborhood.

In a release, LBFD says the first arriving firefighters on scene arrived to find "heavy fire showing from an apartment on the second floor" and a second alarm was called "due to the size of the building, the fire conditions and the potential for life loss."

LBFD indicates it knocked the fire down in about ten minutes and says the apartment in which the fire originated suffered heavy fire damage; three neighboring apartments sustained heavy smoke damage and the business below is also closed due to water damage.

And LBFD Public Information Officer Capt. Mark Miller tells LBREPORT.com that the three firefighters being treated for heat exhaustion should be OK.
