(July 22, 2017) -- A man was shot to death, and LBPD is investigating the shooting as possibly gang-related at the southern end of LB's historic Willmore District (1st Council district) in the predawn hours today (Sat. July 22.)
LBPD states in a release: On July 22, 2017 at 2:31 AM Long Beach Police Officers were called to the area of 4th Street and Maine Avenue regarding reports of gunshots being heard. When officers arrived they located a male adult laying in the street with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. [Scroll down for further.] |
The homicide comes less than a week after some person(s) opened fire on or near a group of residents/friends at an outdoor gathering in the 1st Council district neighborhood west of the L.A. river (Harbor Ave. north of PCH); residents initially thought the sounds were more illegal fireworks until LBPD arrived and found shell casings. No one was hit; LBPD says it's not immediately clear if the gunfire targeted people attending the event.
