(July 12, 2018) -- A man was fatally stabbed on Wednesday night (July 11) in southern California Heights (7th district, Signal Hill border).

Initial information is sketchy. LBPD Public Information Officer Arantxa Chavarria says officers were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. July 11 to a possible stabbing in the area of Wardlow Rd./Orange Ave. where they found a man (adult) with stab wounds; LBFD transported him to a hospital where he didn't survive.

UPDATE: In a release at midmorning July 12, LBPD says the preliminary investigation determined that a "suspect vehicle, being driven by a male subject, may have struck the victim as he was crossing the street. The victim and male subject then became invovled in a dispute, which resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim. The suspect then fled northbound on Orange Ave. in a white vehicle."

LBPD says the victim is a 51 year old LB resident, with Coroner identification pending notification of next of kin. [end UPDATE]
