July 7, 2018 9:35 a.m. UPDATE) -- National Weather Service updated forecast predicts Saturday highs from 90 (90802) to 99 (90808), Sunday 82 (90802) to 94 (90808).
(July 6, 2018, most recent update 5:35 p.m.) -- The National Weather Service monitor at LB Airport recorded a blistering 109 degrees at 2:25 p.m. (with blessedly low 13% humidity)...and the temperature remained between 108 and 109 degrees at LGB for over three hours.

[5:35 p.m. update] There's some relief coming. The NWS early forecast (5:00 p.m. Friday) for Saturday predicts 94 degrees in 90802 and 99 degrees in 90808. Sunday is forecast to be cooler still, with highs from 82 (90802) to 90 (90808).

But Friday July 6, 2018 was one for the record books. The National Weather Service monitor at LB Airport recorded an air temperature of 108 degrees at 12:45 p.m. where it remained until 2:20 p.m. (with the exception of one five-minute period between 12:50 p.m. and 12:55 p.m.)

At 2:20 p.m,, the temperature reached 109 degrees again before sliding back to 108...where it remained until 3:20 p.m., when it hit 109 degrees again. The temp fell back to 108 at 3:30 p.m. and remained there until 3:53 p.m., when it dropped to 105 degrees. At 5:30 p.m., it was still 102 degrees.

Temps tend to be cooler toward the shore; the National Weather Service predicted 100 in 90802, and 101 in 90803.

Humidity as recorded at LGB remained in the teens as temps topped out.

As for predicted cooler temps, we offer no guarantees. Regardless of what the National Weather Service predicts, Mother Nature ultimately decides.
