(July 18, 2018) -- At its July 17 meeting, the City Council voted to choose 11-year Council veteran Dee Andrews as its Vice Mayor (presiding in the Mayor's absence) for the next two years.

Councilman Andrews, now the senior member of the Council and in the final two years of his term-limited third term, had been passed over for the position in previous years..

Councilman Andrews was nominated by Councilwoman Suzie Price, who'd nominated him in previous years and offered profuse praise for the 6th district incumbent (who won a third-term via a 2016 write-in.) Price said choosing Andrews as Vice Mayor would show respect for him by his fellow Councilmembers.

Councilman Austin signaled that he would vote for Andrews (who outpolled Austin in a close 2007 special 6th district election.)

Outgoing Vice Mayor Rex Richardson thanked the Council for naming him Vice Mayor for the previous two years; he nominated Councilman Roberto Uranga for Vice Mayor. Councilwoman Jeannine Pearce nominated Councilwoman Mungo (who said it was an honor to be nominated).

The vote for the nomination of Councilman Andrews came first, and he was chosen Vice Mayor for the next two years on a 5-3 vote.
