Triple Shooting, Area 10th St/Rose Ave.; 16 Yr-Old Woman Shot In Head Dies; 2 Other Victims Shot But Survive

LBPD Arrests 29 Yr-Old Suspect


(June 5, 2001, updated June 8) -- LBPD reports three LB residents were shot at numerous times as they crossed 10th Street in area of Rose Ave. (between Gaviota and Cherry) at about 10:30 p.m. on June 4.

One of the victims, 16 year old Laura Gaviria, was shot in the head. She died at a local hospital shortly after 8:00 a.m. June 5.

19 year old Adrian Hernandez was shot in the upper arm and lower torso. (An LBPD release did not indicate her condition.) A 17 year old male was shot in the shoe and reportedly uninjured.

Shortly after the shooting, LBPD arrested a suspect but he was subsequently released for lack of evidence.
