(June 11, 2002) -- Today's updated ballot tally, which included roughly 4,600 absentee ballots (received by mail June 3d & 4th, and turned in June 4 at polling places) plus approximately 730 provisional ballots, produced a 23.4% total LB voter turnout for the June 4, 2002 city election.

Absentee (vote by mail) ballots nearly equaled polling place votes citywide...and exceeded it in some districts.

Citywide, 11.9% of voters (22,239) voted at their polling places, while 11.5% (21,491) used absentee ballots.

Absentee ballots exceeded polling place ballots in the 2d, 3d, and 8th Council districts, and came close to doing so in the 1st, 4th, 5th districts.

The district with the largest difference between absentee (2,261 ballots, 10.5%) and polling place votes (3,196 ballots, 14.8%) was the 7th district...in which Tonia Reyes-Uranga beat Mike Donelon.
