Outrage! Mother Driving At Alamitos/15th St. Is Shot & Dies; Her 12-Yr. Old Son Riding In Car Is Wounded

(June 23, 2003) -- In one of the more sickening crimes we've ever had to report, a mother driving through a neighborhood only a mile and half northeast of downtown LB was shot and died of her wounds, and her 12-year old son riding with her was shot and wounded, on Sunday night June 22 at about 9:00 p.m.

LBPD says the LB woman in her 50's and her son were ambushed [LBPD's word] by gunfire in the area of Alamitos Ave. and 15th St. in the 6th Council district. Mother and son were struck and taken to local hospitals. The mother died; her son is expected to live.

LBPD says in a written release that its detectives from the Homicide and Gang Units "have been working on this case throughout the night. They are currently questioning witnesses and possible suspects involved in the case. The investigation is ongoing and detectives will continue their diligent work until all suspects involved in this tragic case are taken into custody."

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Homicide Detectives Richard Conant or Bob Erickson at (562) 570-7244.
