(June 4, 2005, updated) -- A shooting in the 3300 block of Anaheim St. (just west of Redondo Ave.) has taken the life of a 20-year-old LB man.

LBPD says that on Friday June 3 at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers responded regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call.

LBPD says its preliminary investigation indicates "two groups of subjects got involved in a verbal altercation inside a business. Both groups walked out of the business and an unknown suspect from one of the groups produced a handgun and fired towards the other group. The victim was struck at least once in the torso and fell towards the inside of the business."

LBFD paramedics responded and transported the victim, Addiel Mejia, 20, of LB, to a hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

LBPD says the motive for shooting is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed what took place is urged to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Richard Conant or Russ Moss at (562) 570-7244.
