"Legends" Belmont Shore Sports Bar Ablaze
(June 21, 2005, updated text) -- Belmont Shore's "Legends" sports bar was on fire shortly before dawn and into the midmorning today (June 21).
LBReport.com was on scene shortly after daybreak and captured the photos below.
LBFD Public Information Officer Paul Rodriguez says the intial call came in about 5:00 a.m. and units arriving in the 5200 block of Second St. found heavy smoke coming from rear of the building.
LB Firefighters made an attack inside and found that the fire had spread from the back of the building and worked its way into attic and appeared to run the length of the building.
Firefighters climbed onto the roof and made a ventilation cut. Smoke was visible throughout the Shore and in adjacent areas.
Recognizing the full extent of the blaze, firefighters then fought a defensive battle to keep the fire from spreading.
Multiple ladder trucks were pouring water onto the fire from several angles, here from the side/rear of the building.
PIO Rodriguez says there's an enormous amount of debris inside; part of the roof collapsed; it looks like the business sustained a total loss.
Adjoining businesses may have suffered some smoke and water damage but it looks like they'll be OK, PIO Rodriguez said.
Crowds watched from along Second St.
Part of Second St. was closed, snarling traffic.
