(June 16, 2005) -- A bizarre six-vehicle accident took place this morning (June 16) at the busy ELB intersection of Lakewood Blvd. at Spring St.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that details are under investigation so the following is preliminary and subject to revision but provides a general overview.
At about 8:30 a.m., two vehicles were heading north on Lakewood Blvd. and entered the intersection at Spring St. Three vehicles were waiting on westbound Spring St., two in left turn lanes, and another in a regular lane pointing west.
Another vehicle was moving eastbound on Spring St...and broadsided one of the vehicles heading north on Lakewood Blvd., which struck the second vehicle going north on Lakewood Blvd, which struck two of the vehicles stopped on west-facing Spring St. Meanwhile, the first vehicle broadsided on northbound Lakewood Blvd spun around and hit another vehicle facing west on Spring St.
Yikes. In the aftermath, PIO Schirmer says there were some complaints of pain, but no one appeared visibly seriously injured...although some vehicle occupants were transported to a hospital for examination.
The accident at the major ELB intersection snarled traffic for at least an hour at the height of the morning rush hour.
An LBReport.com reader said she was stuck in traffic for fully half an hour. We thank her for alerting us to this story.
