(June 28, 2005) -- LB's Board of Harbor Commissioners have elected retired LB Vice-Mayor Doris Topsy-Elvord as their President for a one-year term effective immediately.
The Board elected retired LB City Manager/retired ACTA CEO James C. Hankla as Vice-President.
Mario Cordero, a LB lawyer, was elected Commission Secretary, and John W. Hancock was chosen as the Assistant Secretary.
The newest LB Harbor Commissioner is Mike Walter, Ph.D., a former board chair of the LB Area Chamber of Commerce and former dean of CSULB's College of Business Administration who currently serves as assistant to CSULB's president for community relations. Mayor O'Neill's choice of Dr. Walter was unanimously approved by the City Council on June 21. He succeeds John Calhoun, LB's retired LB City Attorney, who indicated that he didn't wish to be reappointed.
Under LB's 1980's-era City Charter, Harbor Commissioners are non-elected and non-recallable and serve six year terms...two years longer than the Councilmembers who approve them.
